Why Free To Air TV And Sport Don't Mix

Example #1:

After being run into the ground by this guy;

Former One HD head of programming, let's call him Clive.

One HD have totally given up on sport. Rather than ask why their ratings sucked balls, they have decided to go in a different direction. Whilst mildly interesting, I'm pretty sure Ice Road Trucking is not a sport. If they had of perhaps listened to viewers, or rather had the intelligence to provide some sort of forum for disgruntled viewers to easily share their grievances, if they had of held that anonymous someone responsible for their insulting programming accountable rather than making Clive the scapegoat, if they just had of shown any aptitude for covering sport, surely things could have been different. Sport is hard to fuck up. You just have to give the people what they want. Yes, live sport is good, but you know what, I can't watch a midday Lakers game on a Wednesday because I, like most people, go to work. And I'll be fucked if I'm going to get up at 3am the next morning to watch the replay. I'm not going to spell it out for you how it should play out, hell, I've done that enough times, but all I'll say is that I probably wouldn't be showing Recruits at prime time. Again, it's arguable as to whether Recruiting/Being Recruited could be classified as a sport...

Anyway, the final chapter of my One HD bashing concludes by simply saying that sport is hard to fuck up if you do it right. Just ask Foxsports. And yeah;

Right back at ya "Clive"...

Example #2:

Delaying the blockbuster Broncos vs Bulldogs clash by an hour for the Royal Wedding! When it's on the ABC, Channel 7 and Channel 10 as well! I don't think I'm alone in saying that I'm fucking outraged! Enough said!!!!!!!!

Thank fuck the Lakers are out, I couldn't stand watching Pau Gasol waste 7 feet of quality NBA height on piss-weak 16-foot fadeaways.

PS: Please add me to your blogroll. I think I'm currently on there with my previous offering: SportingMind. New address is thepublicapology.wordpress.com.

Great to be back on the blogging circuit and keep those expletive laden articles coming.

It certainly was sweet following the score of Dallas rodgering the Lakers unceremoniously in Game 4 on NBA.com (I couldn't watch the game because I was at work and the replay was at 4am the next morning or something shithouse like that). I remember saying to a friend that the best part about it was picturing Pau blubbering in the locker room, rueing that fact he couldn't get his mid-long range jumpers going...

Good to have you back Mr. change your name by deed poll to thepublicapology.wordpress.com!

I'm still bitter about the royal wedding delaying the league and its about 8 months past the boring event. I mean, good luck to Mr and Mrs Buckingham Palace, but seriously who wants to see some rich kids get married when there is footy on. It was a farce and a disgrace.

How much of a fucking outrage is it that the federal government has allowed Channel 9 to broadcast the football into Victoria, Tassie, WA & SA LIVE ON GEM IN HIGH DEFINITION. For fucks sake, wake up to yourselves and give the people who went out and bought good quality HD TV's a break, and let them watch sport in HD. I have been spewing for years now about not being able to watch the football or cricket in HD. There have been a few instances such as when the news was on that 9 would put the cricket on GEM for half hour which was the most wonderful thing I have seen from 9 in years. Plus they broadcast I think it was 1 four nations game on GEM last year. WAKE UP TO YOURSELVES CHANNEL NINE OR YOU WILL LOSE THE RIGHTS.
